Slow Cooking Casserole Style

Crock-Pot now has a new casserole style cooker. I saw this the online the other day and really contemplated if it would be something that I would actually use. Granted I have about 6 crockpots now, all varying sizes and yes, I do use them all. Not all at one time but I do use them. With Crock-Pot brand being my only brand of choice, I thought I'd take a whirl and look at it in person. So we went to the local Wal-Mart, as this is an "exclusive" to their stores....however, it wasn't to be found at our local store. My sweetie looked it up online and read the dimensions & description of it and I thought it was just as well that we didn't find it on our shopping trip as I might have been tempted to get one. I also kind of didn't want to spend the $39.99 that the Wal-Mart site advertised it for.

Today we made a stop at Sam's to pick up a few things and lo and behold they had this very item as a "One Time Buy" on the shelf. I looked at it and thought, "do I really need it?" Well, no I don't NEED it but it would be nice to have as it's not as tall as the traditional oval or round styles. Then I got to talking with a customer who had one in her basket. She, like myself, is a collector of all things Crock-Pot. We had the same issue of pondering whether we needed it or not. As we discussed the appliance I decided I was going to go ahead and get it. While I would love to have the red (as it would match my existing red oval) all they had were purple and one black. I decided on black....but it's more of a grey color rather than a deep black shade. This is fine with me as it compliments both my red & my older green ivy pattern Crock-Pots. The other bonus was that Sam's was selling the appliance for $34.97! That's a good size savings in books.

Tonight I am going to start a pan of ribs with it. I am thinking that the fact that it is wider in size, I won't have to layer my ribs as deep as I usually do. I also want to try it out for making an overnight hash brown breakfast casserole. I think I am going to like the idea of being able to make a dump cake in it and have it turn out more like a traditional rectangular cake & not so thick in height.
