Are you dealing with hot spots?

It never fails...come summer time one or two of our furbabies get hot spots from heat rash. We've tried different over the counter medicated shampoos with little to no relief. Hydrocortisone cream didn't help. Even after seeing the Vet, there wasn't much success.

Our sweet Rat Terrier, Dixie Lee, has been miserable with constant itching, scratching and chewing on herself. Not to mention it's been hard for us to not be able to find a solution for her.

I began researching home remedies online and came upon an article about Listerine. This jogged my memory to something I forgot about from years ago. I had a recipe for soothing spray. Once I looked for and found the recipe I immediately made a batch of it. We tried it and so far we've seen a difference in the chewing on her hind haunches and tail area as these are the most affected areas.

Homemade Listerine Hot Spot Spray

Take a clean spray bottle and remove the sprayer insert. Fill a 3rd of the bottle with Listerine. Next add a 3rd of the bottle with baby oil. Finally, fill another 3rd of the bottle with luke warm water. Replace sprayer and tighten to fingertip tight. Shake to mix ingredients. Spray affected area(s) and lightly rub to get beneath the fur to really coat the skin. Shake to mix before each use.

Here's our baby girl about 20 minutes after application. She's finally able to get some relief so she can rest. While this is not a cure all, the Listerine soothes the irritation while the baby oil moisturizes the skin.

My Little Family

I just love my freckle belly baby girl! She's such a ham for the camera.
My baby boy hiding in the curtains. He's just so handsome!

When these two get together, you never know what to expect.
Just look at their sweet, innocent faces. Sisterly love....and mischief!

Disabled Veteran Asks for Public Support to Keep Dutch from being Euthanized
What would you do if, for no reason at all, someone came and started punching you in the face and kept punching you until their hands hurt so bad they couldn't hit you anymore, after which they grab a metal pole and used the pole to beat you. Then they pull you from into the house by your collar, and grabbing you by your mouth as soon as they got inside. You would defend yourself just Dutch did. The difference being, we have hands that we can use to make a fist and try to punch back with or our feet to kick with. Dutch only has the use of his teeth to defend himself. To say that one's life should be terminated because of self defense is asinine! The bitch that beat him is NOT the victim in this situation....DUTCH and his family are. You have no idea how ANGRY I am right now!!! This is proof of how screwed up society and the so called 'justice' system truly are.

This made me smile. Codie Raye & Isabella were both rescue babies. I couldn't imagine my life without them.

Guess What??

It's hard to believe but tomorrow will be Dixie Lee's 1st birthday! Our little girl is growing so fast. My only regret is that her sister Ginger Leah won't be here to celebrate with us. I love my babies so much!

Tears On Our Pillows

It was not the easiest decision to make, but know I did what I felt was in your best interest to end any suffering you may have had. The time we had together may not have always been the easiest, but none the less we had each other. The love we shared can never be broken. The beauty you brought to my life will never be forgotten. I miss you so much, my heart continues to ache, but I know you are in Heaven serving the LORD in the manner you were called too. I love you Ginger Leah. You will always be my special spoiled rotten girl.

Splash Day

Summer hasn't even begin to rear it's blazing temperatures yet, but it's already HOT as can be outside. So what better way for my girls to cool off than to have a pool day. They just loved it!

Why Did You Leave?

"Woof!" I said as you started the car,
"Hooray!" I said, it's my first time afar.
The scents we were passing were all new to me,
For it was my first introduction to this mystery.
As we got out of the car I embraced you with joy,
After all you remembered to bring my favorite toy!
You threw it once or twice, of which I retrieved,
But on the third it seemed you were ready to leave.
You threw it long and hard and I chased it like lightning,
But when I turned to bring it back I saw a sight quite frightening.
I gripped my toy hard as I tried to comprehend
What it was I did wrong to make our relationship end.
You walked back to your car as I sat there still loyal.
Why am I subservient and you so royal?
Your engine started, and you peeled out into the night,
You didn't even care about my overwhelming fright.
As I sat in my pose determined you would come back,
The sun faded behind me while the surroundings turned black.
Day after day I stayed in that park,
Lying... waiting... too feeble to bark.
As I lay there dying thinking of you master,
I asked myself how I got into this horrifying disaster.
With my last breath of life, I whispered your name
Then I collapsed in a heap overrun by pain.
Why didn't you love me master? Why didn't you care?
Had I no significance, was I just a clump of hair?
I stayed there master and I waited for you
I guess taking care of me was just too much to do.
I'm gone now master, no more You-and-I
But what I can't figure out is why you didn't even say goodbye...

DON'T ABANDON YOUR PETS. You are their lives!

Note : It's a poem and I am not sure if its based on a specific dog. But that's how many animals end worldwide. Spay and Neuter your pets! Save their lives and the lives of many unborn ones.

If I Didn't Have A Dog or Cat....

I could walk around the yard barefoot. My house could be carpeted instead of tiled and laminated. All flat surfaces, clothing, furniture, and cars would be free of hair. When the doorbell rings, it wouldn't sound like a kennel. When the doorbell rings, I could get to the door without wading through fuzzy bodies who beat me there.I could sit on the couch and my bed the way I wanted, without taking into consideration how much space several fur bodies would need to get comfortable. I would have money, and no guilt to go on a real vacation. I would not be on a first-name basis with 6 veterinarians,as I put their yet unborn grandkids through college. The most used words in my vocabulary would not be: out, sit, down, come, no, stay, and leave it ALONE.

My house would not be cordoned off into zones with baby gates or barriers. I would not talk 'baby talk'. 'Eat your din din'. 'Yummy yummy for the tummy'...My house would not look like a daycare center, toys everywhere. My pockets would not contain things like poop bags, treats and an extra leash.I would no longer have to spell the words B-A-L-L, W-A-L-K, T-R-E-A-T, O-U-T, G-O, R-I-D-E, C-O-O-K-I-E. I would not have as many leaves INSIDE my house as outside. I would not look strangely at people who think having ONE dog/cat ties them down too much. I'd look forward to spring and the rainy season instead of dreading 'mud' season. I would not have to answer the question...'Why do you have so many animals? 'from people who will never have the joy in their lives of knowing they are loved unconditionally by someone as close to an ANGEL as they will ever get. How EMPTY my life would be!!!
