A Little Bit Of This, A Little Bit Of That

So much for taking a break this past week. We've been busier than ever! The summer temperature is definitely upon us in full force, so needless to say the a/c has been earning it's keep for sure. Each day that we go out into the garden we are blessed with more to harvest. Things are producing so well that it has certainly kept me on my toes with canning; which I am so thankful to be able to do.

In the past few days, I canned a case of bread & butter pickles, 14 pints of Texas Sweet Hot pickles & several pints of Italian seasoned stewed tomatoes. I've picked our pink eye purple hull peas until my fingers were the deepest shade of purple I have ever seen. *grin*

We had a ton of bell peppers that were ready to be picked this weekend, so I diced them up & into the freezer they went. This makes it so much easier to use when cooking. I also made up several loaves of zucchini bread to freeze, as we are definitely plentiful in that crop. We have more of everything on the vine and bushes, so each day presents a new project for cooking, canning, freezing or baking.

I have a bucket load of herbs that need to be harvested. So later this evening when it cools down some, I'll grab my garden shears and get busy. It never ceases to amaze me at how much GOD just continues to pour out HIS blessings on us. We serve a good GOD.

This morning I worked up a handful of bell peppers, jalapenos and tomatoes to use for next years seeds. I had a good amount that had were ready to be put in their respective envelopes and then stored in the icebox, but I still had a few more that needed to be dried out before storing. This will definitely be a money saver come planting time next season.

Hubby has been busy as well. In addition to work, he has been gradually adding a few trees to our property. The other evening he planted our Bartlett Pear tree. Isn't it a beauty! He positioned it so that I can see it from our kitchen and breakfast area windows. He planted our Silver Maple tree last night, so now he only has 3 more trees to get in the ground and a few hedges for our front porch border. It's just so hot outside that he has to wait until late in the evening before he can get out there, so it may take a few days to get it all done, but that's ok with us.

It's time to get back to work again. There's always something to do if you just look around you. Have a great day everyone!

Welcome back! Can't wait to see your Texas Sweet Hot Pickles recipe. Your homemade goodies - canned, frozen, baked and all - sound wonderful! A good inspiration for me too. I hope to have enough purple pod beans to can in about a week or two. And some tomatoes for salsa. Our garden is small, but I hope to have at least a decent assortment of home canned goods on the shelves by Winter. Stay cool with all your kitchen and garden work, and I'll try to do the same. -Tammy

Thank you for the warm welcome. It does feel good to be back amongst my blogging friends. I have been busy, but it's been well worth it.

Happy gardening yourself! *smile*

Good to hear everything is harvesting well - I really need to hear how you handle your herbs. I have been reading a ton about them, and still don't feel like I am taking care of all of them correctly. The cilantro already bolted, but I think that is fine and it will hopefully grow up again before salsa is ready to can. I'm cutting chives, basil, oregano, and mint. Hoping to dry all of those as well.
