A Lesson Learned The Hard Way

This morning was one of those days that actually afforded me a few extra moments of down time before heading out to a full day of appointments. Standing at the stove cooking my chili meat, I hear "ding dong, ding dong, ding dong" at the front door. I wasn't expecting anyone so I ran to the closet to get my house coat. Yes, I was relaxing in jammies. I open the door and there stands before me, two uniformed County Sheriff officers. All right...what could this be about I wonder. They proceed to ask if I knew of a person by the name of "such and such." I did but I didn't. Apparently this young adult they were looking for was part of the family that lived in our home before we bought it over a year ago. I told them I knew the name because we were getting their mail at one point, since no forwarding order was ever issued on them. So yes, I knew the name of the individual but that was it. They very politely apologized for bothering me but thanked me for the information and left bidding me a good day.

So what lesson did I learn here?? It doesn't matter if you have time to yourself or not...GET DRESSED 1st thing the morning. Don't lounge around in your p.j.'s because you just never know who might show up at the door. On a better note...we have a glass from door and thankfully last night Hubby put up the curtain rods for our door panel. Had that not been on there you could have see straight in the door and saw me scurrying for my robe. How embarrassing would that have been??? *grin* I of course had to call Hubby and thank him for installing it last night. Whew! I dodge the proverbial bullet that time didn't I!?!

Oh~I have so been there. I still remember my Christian Womanhood teacher~Mrs Johnston. She shared her "caught in your rollers moment" with a lesson on what you just shared. Only she came home from running her children to school to find a room full of preachers and missionaries in her untidy home w/ jammies and rollers. I have tried my best to always remember these past 25 years her story. Just remember God has humor and likes to keep us humble! Shake it off and have a great day!

I have been there! Not to long ago, we had a surprise visitor, and I was so un prepared. My hair was in a towel, lounging pj's and half make up'd. Just taking my sweet time! Hope you have a good day! Hugs and Blessings,

I had that happen to me once... they were looking for our previous neighbor too. You know how it goes though.. you can get dressed 1st thing but no one will ring your doorbell again until the day you decide to stay in your jammies!!!

I am SOOOO guilty of this, especially when Mr. B is working out of town. I really, really LOVE wearing my PJ's and often find myself doing my morning household clean up in them! (hee, hee) Glad I live out in a area where we don't have many unexpected visitors!

When I was younger, I was horrified and humiliated several times by "caught in your rollers" moments.
Nowadays, I've scared more than one magazine salesman away, because very few things are scarier than grammie in her nightie!
See? It all works out in the end!

LOL that is too funny. I think I would probably freak out if I saw two officers on my porch, thinking the worst of course. A solid year can go by and no one would come over in the morning-until that day I decided not to get dressed! Murphys Law I suppose!

Oh my goodness, how funny and embarrissing all at the same time. I learned the same lesson a few years ago. I was in my "house lounging clothes", and ring ring went the doorbell. Ugh, I could have died. I started the next morning with following what "flylady" from
(flylady.com)(you gotta check her out if you've never heard of her. Her website was a teriffic help to me years ago in getting organized. Anyway, Marla has this thing she calls "Getting dressed to your shoes" . Basically first thing in the morning @ some point in your early morning routine, you make sure that you get dressed all the way down to some shoes. It needs not be out of the house fancy, just don't stay in your pj's our sloppy house clothes all day. It really does have a negative effect on a person in the long run if that is someone's daily habbit.

So I said all that to say this...."GET DRESSED DECENTLY EVERY MORNING" so that should someone drop by you will already be presentable and not scurrying around for your robe or what ever. **GRIN** Besides, you will just plain ol' feel better about facing and starting your day.

Glad everything worked out ok for you though.
Thank God above for curtains huh?!? LOL

Love & Prayers,
Ronda

I wear my robe so often - until I feel I *have* to get dressed or reap the consequences. My in-laws recently moved into the neighborhood, and they're constantly dropping by, but I think I am finally getting back to feeling comfortable about being "me" in my own home.

I think I would have panicked if police officers were standing at my door...I'm a worst case scenario type of person. :) Glad it wasn't anything serious.

Yes, all I can say is that I'm glad we live far enough out that it would be very rare to have a visitor at my door. :)

Good lesson though!
