Mortgages

The economy does not seem to be doing any better in some ways than it did last year. Many are without jobs, debts are steadily increasing & many families are loosing their homes due to financial crisis. So tonight I was sitting here wondering about something.....What are you doing to pay off your home mortgage earlier than scheduled? Or are you? I realize it may be hard for some to pay more than just the regularly scheduled payment but when the financial belt loosens a notch, are you using the little extra to help take care of that nagging mortgage note?

I can't wait until the day comes when I can officially burn my mortgage papers because my house is paid in full and outright mine. I don't know what the American dream of the majority is nowadays, but mine is to live debt free.

My mortgage has been paid in full.. but in a way I didn't anticipate. My husband became disabled and we had to sell our home because he could no longer work. So we're debt free... finally... it just came about in a different way than expected. :-)

We are enormously blessed with a good roof over our head and a warm bed to sleep in every night. Many in the world are not so blessed.

We used to pay extra on the mortgage each month. Then we took out a van loan 1.5 years ago. Now all extra money goes towards that. it should be paid off within the next 2-3 months and we will get back to paying extra on the mortgage. I think we will do just $100 each month, as we have other savings goals we have to take care of too (new driveway and furnace), but I am anxious to get back to it.

@ Living on less money.....you are so right -being surrounded by family & close friends, a warm bed, a roof over our heads & food in our stomaches...those are the true blessings in life.

@ Jennifer....that is wonderful that the van loan will be paid in such short a time! I hear ya on goaling your funds yet still applying what you can to the mortgage. Every little bit helps regardless of the amount.
