I was reading an email this morning and saw the following tip that I thought was worth passing on...
I personally have not tried this yet but if I get a clog I certainly think it will be worth a try.I was a custodian for many years and this works! If you have a clogged toilet, this is the fastest fix! I have used this over the years and always recommend it.
Instead of harsh chemicals or a plunger, try 1/2 cup of Dawn dishwashing detergent! Just pour it right in the clog and let it sit. After 30 minutes, try and flush. If you don't have Dawn, any detergent brand name will work. The grease relief in the products do the trick. This saves you money. Also when your clog is removed, swish with your brush any of the left over detergent and your bowl is also clean.

My vet also recommends Dawn to wash your pet if he or she is ever "skunked". No more dousing with tomato juice! Tho tomato juice is effective, not near as much as the Dawn.
Wish we'd had that tip a couple years ago when our cat came running in from the fields shaking his head and shuddering! EEW!
I use homemade laundry soap for our regular wash. However, my husband works in the oil fields - a VERY dirty and greasy environment. DAWN is absolutely the BEST at removing all the icky gunk he brings home on his work clothes (aka "greasers").
I spray all the stains with stain remover and allow them to sit for one hour. I then wash his greasy work clothes in hot water and DAWN (I've never found another dish or laundry soap that works as well). I also give his clothes a 2nd rinse before drying them on the line or in the clothes dryer.

This sounds great!
I think I shall have to remember this one for future reference.

I never had thought about this, but I bet it really works great! Because nothing in this world cuts grease like dawn! My dad being an auto mechanic and front end specialist, his work clothes and hands would be covered! Mom always used dawn on his clothes and he used it on his hands. He actually worked better than any hand cleaner out there. Hubby uses it for the same reason now on his hands if he has finished a messy job. He to this dad, hubby still prefers to wash our cars with original dawn.
