Happy Homemaker Monday 6-8-09

(Hosted by Sandra)

The weather in my neck of the woods ~ is so beautiful with lots of sunshine

One of my simple pleasures ~ spending time making our home cozy & inviting

On my bedside table ~ Mother Earth News

On my t.v. ~ it's been off all day...oh how I love the quiet

On the menu for tonight ~ honestly I have been so busy this morning that I haven't thought about it

On my to do list ~ lots and lots of paperwork, grind up my dehydrated herbs and of course laundry

New recipe I tried last week ~ not really new, but it was tasty Hot Dog Casserole

In the craft basket ~ let's not even go there right now *grin*

Looking forward to ~ vacation...we haven't planned things in detail yet but we need a break from things

Homemaking tip for the week ~ re-invent the concept of bartering...trade what you have for something someone else has that you can use; for instance, I traded vegetables from our garden with a friend who in turn gave us fresh yard eggs...this wasn't planned that way, but the LORD knew what HE was doing

Favorite blog post of the week (mine or other) ~ Chocolate Cake w/ Fluffy Icing by Sandra at Keeping It Simple

Favorite photo from last week ~ well, there's two this time because they go so great together...homemade bread & homemade butter

Lesson I learned the past few days ~ that Walmart is not the low price leader, but we already knew that

On my prayer list ~ our family, friends, Church, our government leaders, our children

Devotionals, Scripture Reading or Key Verse ~
"Addicted to the Word" by Kenneth Copeland

“Ye know the house of Stephanas...and that they have addicted themselves to the ministry of the saints.” – 1 Corinthians 16:15

I want you to begin to develop an addiction today--an addiction to the Word of God. That may sound odd to you, especially if you don't have much of an interest in the Word right now. But, believe me, it's possible. I've done it myself and I've seen others do it, time and again.

All you have to do is make a decision to give yourself to it. To focus your time and attention on it. The more you give yourself to it, the more your desire for it will grow. Eventually, it will
consume your thinking.

Surprised? You shouldn't be. That happens with anything you totally give yourself to. It happens, for example, with people who give themselves to pornography. As they focus their attention on it, the spirit behind it moves in on their consciousness and eventually draws
them from mental activity into physical activity. Finally, they come to a place where they can't be satisfied. They can't get enough.

That same principle works on the positive side when you begin to give yourself to God's Word. You can give yourself to it to the point where it totally consumes your mental and physical life. The more of it you get, the more you want. The Spirit behind the Word, the Holy Spirit, will draw you and lead you closer to Jesus than you ever imagined possible.

I've never yet met anybody walking in faith and power who at sometime hadn't developed that kind of addiction by giving themselves totally to the Word for an extended time. I don't mean just a few minutes here and there either. I'm talking about some serious time. So determine to do that. Determine to become a Word addict. Once you do, you'll never be willing to live without it again.

Scripture Reading: Hebrews 4:1-12

Carrie ~

I'm glad you like the new look. I know, I change things so often around here. But really I am trying to find a face lift that really reflects the simplicity yet fun of my blog. I think I might have found a winner.

I 100% agree with you on the barter system. Our neighbors and us already sharing veggies from the garden. Then next year we will be doing more they raise all kinds of animals, beef cows, pigs, ect. We are getting dairy goats and chickens so we will be swapping a lot of items, mainly cheese and eggs. Have a great week.

Love, love, love, the new look! Very pretty and feminine. Inviting as well.

Love the take on the addiction. Unfortunately, sometimes I think I am addicted to my computer! :) Wish I had the same sense when I sat down with my bible, but it's coming!

I am so happy to hear how much each of you are enjoying the new look. I really have tried hard to make it something that would make my readers feel at home, yet put a bright spot in the day. Maybe now I will stop changing things up so often. I just realized that I am fashioned for the 4th of July holiday as far as colors, so I am in season already.

~Warm Cozy Wishes to you all
