Homemade Butter1 c. heavy whipping cream
1/4 tsp. salt
Pour cream into a hand crank style mixer, Kitchenaide or a jar with a tight fitting lid. Begin to "churn" cream by whipping with paddle attachment. If using a jar, screw lid on and begin shaking. Churn/shake until cream begins to look like butter.
At this point add in salt. Continue churning/shaking until mixture completely turns to butter.
(If using the mixer it will take about 10 minutes for this to happen.) Strain off buttermilk from the butter.
(You can keep the buttermilk to use later if desired.) Place in a butter crock or small bowl. Enjoy!

Wow! I didn't know it was that easy!

To be honest...I didn't know it would be that easy either! *grin* I was surprised at how quickly it turned to butter. And let me say...it taste WONDERFUL!!
Another reason to LOVE this site! Yummy!
If I were to use the jar method, shaking it, how long might it take to turn to butter? Before my arm falls off?! :)
This might be the final excuse I need to finally buy that KitchenAid mixer. Oh yeah!
If you were to shake it instead it will tire your arm out no doubt, but in about 10-15 minutes give or take on the vigor of your shaking you'll have butter.

Thank you, I will try this, but I don't have a Kitchen Aid, will a hand-held mixer work?
Doris,
Yes you can use a hand held mixer....just keep mixing until it begins to butterize.
