Love Dare - Day 3

Romans 12:10 "Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor."

Highlights from this chapter:

Almost every sinful action ever committed can be traced back to a selfish motive. It is a trait we hate in other people but justify in ourselves.

Loving couples - the ones who are enjoying the full purpose of marriage - are bent on taking good care of the other flawed human they get to share life with. True love looks for ways to say "yes."

Love is never satisfied except in the welfare of others. Choosing to love your spouse will cause you to say "no" to what you want so you can say "yes" to what they need.

Love leads to inner joy. When you prioritize the well being of your spouse, there is a resulting fulfillment that can not be duplicated by selfish actions. When you relinquish your rights for the sake of your spouse, you get a chance to lose yourself to the greater purpose of marriage.

Philippians 2:3 "Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves;"

Today's dare: Whatever you put your time, energy and money into will become more important to you. It's hard to care for something you are not investing in. Along with restraining from negative comments, buy your spouse something that says, "I was thinking of you today."

I did try to complete today's dare and made a very big effort, but the item I planned to buy my hubby was not available without being ordered. I honestly didn't take much time to run to run her and there to try to find this particular item elsewhere, as I was exhausted. I had spent most of the day before and then all night in the emergency room and then ICU with a family member. Thankfully I had company as our Aunt was there with me (as she has been throughout this long ordeal.) So needless to say, I was running low on energy and sleep. My goal is to complete this dare tomorrow as well as that day's dare.

I admit, I wasn't quite sure what the item would be that I could get hubby that would say "I was thinking of you" as I wanted it to be something more special than just something that might be considered an any day item. But in between bouts of exhaustion in the wee hours of the morning I thought long and hard about it. You know when I really began to focus on my hubby and his needs the ideas came quite easily to mind.

So far so good...I really haven't run into a really tough dare yet. But it's only day 3 and I am not reading ahead of each day so I do not know what the future dares hold. I'm still willing to take them on though.

I like that you are not looking ahead to future dares ... It's like you are taking one day at time. Trying to do more than one day each day of our life only seems to bring worry and anxiety into our lives (no matter the situation). Jesus is there for tomorrow and HE will make a way no matter what it holds. hmm, maybe this is a reminder lesson to myself ...

Mrs. B,
Thanks for your words of wisdom and encouragement. I have to admit I really want to look ahead at the next day and such but I am making myself wait. For me, if I look ahead I will not be able to full focus on today - in the back of my mind I would be thinking of the next dare. So it helps keep me in line and focused.
