Walmart -vs- Target

This morning we took a trip to the local Walmart as a friend told me about a deal on soup that she found the day before. I went to see for myself & lo and behold they had Campbell's Cream of Mushroom and Cream of Chicken soup (10 3/4-oz cans) marked for .58 cents a can. If you ever buy it, you know that normally it costs anywhere from $1.00 on up, so this was a bargain. I stockpiled on both varieties. However I found a twist on this that I think is worth noting.

The price label that Walmart had posted on the shelf under the soup cans had a small black star on the right hand corner of it. I didn't think much of it until I looked at the other stickers around it and none of them had this on there. Ok, so I then looked at other stickers on different products and only certain ones had it. I scouted out for an employee to dig deeper into this. What I was told was that this was an internal note to the employees. In essence it told them that this was a promo item. So I questioned the employee as to how long this "promo" would be offered. No specific date was given, but they did state that this will run through Thanksgiving and possibly into the New Year holiday. After that it may stay this price and run through the year, but it was not a guarantee so it may possibly stop and go back to the regular price (which in our store is $1.00) after the holiday season.

I got a sales flier in the mail yesterday from Target that listed a few of their Thanksgiving items on sale as of Sunday 11-15-09.

What caught my attention were the following...Campbell's Cream of Mushroom soup (10 3/4-oz cans) are going to .49 cents! This is even cheaper than Walmart, but since I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to get over to Target after Church tomorrow I went ahead and bought at Walmart today. I will try my best to get over there and pick up a case or two. The ad says cream of mushroom, so I don't know if the cream of chicken will be on sale. If not, you can still get a good deal on it at Walmart.

The other offer that peeked my interest was for Stove Top brand stuffing, Betty Crocker potatoes and Heinz jar gravy for .79 cents. This is a good price, however I noticed at Walmart they are offering the gravy in turkey only for .75 cents a jar. Target's ad just says gravy...no specific flavor so I can only assume (but suggest you check it at the store to make certain) that any variety would be at this sale price.

If you have the extra finances and room to store them, this would be a good time to stock up on things. You can always use it at some point, so it's not like it will go to waste. You can even use some of it to make up a gift basket of pantry items to give to someone in need and it would have cost you next to nothing to bless someone.

I rarely go to Walmart anymore! We have a great dicount grocery store not to far away. I pay 29cents a can for the small cans and 99cents for the big cans.. I get a better variety like cream of celery, broccoli an dwhatever else they may have. They usually have mushroom and chicken the others are usually every once in a while! I love that store LOL
Glad you found a good deal!! It is always nice!

I ran into town today and picked up a few cans of the cream soup. I don't usually look at the Target ad and would have missed this good deal. Thanks for posting it on your blog!!!

I usually don't shop Walmart myself, but when I heard about this markdown I had to go get stock up. If we had a discount store like yours I would be nixing Walmart myself.

I'm glad that this shout out on the sale helped you out. I too pass up looking at some of the store ads so had I not taken a minute to scan the flier, I too would have missed out.
