Treasures

II Timothy 2:19-23 "Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work. Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart. But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes."

I am trying to learn and understand more of God's Word. What does it mean by foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes?

Domestic ~
Thank you for your comment and question. I know there are many ways to interpret Scripture so I am only reply with what I feel this is saying from my vantage point...it may be right or wrong but it is my interpretation...

I believe it could mean avoiding pointless arguments, and avoid asking questions for the sole purpose of provoking someone. If you are only asking questions or indulging in conversation(s) that do not benefit but merely cause a fight or arguing, then we need to avoid it.

May I add my two cents worth? (Or maybe in this day and age, I should make it a nickel!)

I kind of interpret that line as saying that we need to get over ourselves, and stop wondering what else is out there once we are adults. Our youthful foolishness has to go away, and we have to grow up and lead our lives in a good and honorable way.

But I am glad you posted a question, Domestic Goddess, because when I first read this post, I really began to think. I'd love to hear others opinions!
