Thinking Ahead To Thanksgiving

With only 28 days until Thanksgiving, I am wondering if anyone has started on their holiday dinner menu. Are you going to have the traditional turkey, dressing/stuffing and sides that most American tables will showcase or do you do something different? If you care to, feel free to share some of your favorite Thanksgiving dishes, recipes and/or memories that always bring a smile to your face.

Traditional all the way! I think my family would protest if I tried to mix it up. Turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, fresh cranberry sauce, homemade rolls, etc. For dessert I usually have a couple of pies...our new favorite is a chocolate pie I think I got from Ina Garten.
I love all the planning, buying and preparing, tho I get a lot of help from my husband. It's his favorite meal of the year!

I am glad that Thanksgiving is late in the month this year. I am not ready for it yet. I will keep my eyes open for Thanksgiving sales on flour, cranberries, stuffing, etc. :)

We always do a traditional Thanksgiving (but our Christmas meal is untraditional). Turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, molded jello salad as well as a green salad, rolls, yams, green bean casserole (with onion rings on top), pies.....hmmm, gonna make myself hungry!

Traditional, with maybe a few untraditional things thrown in for good measure. ;) We always make the regular pies that everyone makes, but then we make a peanut butter pie too! So good!

Our Christmas is very un-traditional. We have a Christmas breakfast instead of a meal! Waffles with my mom's heart-shaped waffle iron, eggs, bacon, sausage, scrapple, fruit, and then Christmas cookies, cheese and crackers, and other snacks later in the afternoon. :)

Love the picture btw, it's lovely! :)

God Bless!

My sister is cooking~for I am leaving for my daughter's that next day!
I will make pies and bread. I am so thankful she is giving me that gift.
I have two and a half weeks worth of meals to make for my Brian while I am gone.
We have never been apart this long~sure will miss him!

Ours is fairly traditional with a twist ... 24 years ago, I found myself a young unwed mother. After a tremendous amount of rejection from our extended family, I chose to celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays with only my young son. Since there was only two of us (me a tiny (at the time) 100 lbs. and my toddler at only 17 lbs.), I knew a turkey would be WAY, WAY too much for us. So I chose to roast a chicken instead. I served it with scaled down portions of dressing & gravy, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, squasch casserole, green beans, rolls and pumpkin pie.
For the past 24 years the roasted chicken tradition has stuck. As the years have gone by, I've married and our family has grown. Some years I've had to roast 2 or 3 chickens, but always chicken, never a turkey. The turkey is saved for Christmas, the ham is for Easter.
Thanksgiving is my family's FAVORITE holiday.

Mrs. B ~ What a great tradition! Even though it may have started out from a negative response, the LORD has certainly turned it into a blessing. I think that's a great feast.
