Garden Planning Phase 4

The garden is coming along quite well. Hubby measured things out & got 3 of our rows put in, so we were able to get our bell peppers, jalapeno peppers, tomatoes, herbs & such planted.

He also made several mounds and planted our squash & strawberries. I am so looking forward to seeing things take hold and grow.

We still have plenty of garden space left that we plan to use for our cucumbers, zucchini and a few other vegetables. It was so nice to sit and look at the beauty of our freshly planted vegetables.

Looks great! Unfortunately I am behind and I don't have anything planted yet. I hope to get a few things in the ground later this week/early next week. You guys are going to LOVE all those fresh veggies.

Wow! I didn't realize you should plant this early. We want to do some square foot gardening, but don't even have everything prepared. I hope it won't be too late...I don't have a green thumb, but I really want to give it a try!

I was reading your love dare in the post below too. Didn't you love the movie, Fireproof? We need MORE movies like that!

I can not wait to get our gardens planted. The book I'm reading Passionate Housewives is about knocking out all the missconceptions on being a housewife with Biblical references. For example the first chapter talks about how sometimes as a homemaker we can be desperate and long for more in life. I'm only on chapter 2 but a lot of the feelings she has talked about I have had at one time or another. In chapter 2 they talk about the "me time". I enjoy it because there is so many Biblical references that I can go to. I am reading this so much slower than I usually read a book because there is so much information. I have a journal where I jot down anything that I want to look up or study further. I hope this has helped you some.

This inspires me. We still have snow on the ground but I can't wait to see my little garden sprouting. I am rejoicing over yours! Thanks for sharing!

This Country Girl,

Yes you can plant now...but it depends of course on your area. A good reference is The Old Farmers Almanac.com
Type in your area and it will tell you what to plant and the best times/dates to do so.

I cant even describe the feeling of having that planted and getting up every morning and wanting to race out there and see how much things have grown overnight. Its magical and you get such a satisfaction of knowing you can do all ths yourself and it tastes so much better than anything you can buy. Great great great job! Lets pray for a little rain.

Yes, rain is very much needed.

Oh, I can't wait to plant, but we are a good 60 days out for tomatoes yet...frost free day for us is usually May 15. Such a short growing season around here.

I'm interested to see how come you mound all your rows...I typically do the squash, zucchini, etc in mounds, but leave other things (peppers, tomatoes) flat. I'd love to hear so I can continue to improve...we use a lot of grass mulch for weed control, but I am wondering if this planting method is helpful for that as well?

Sarah,

Thanks so much for asking. I will be happy to give our reasoning behind the "mound rows." I have to take care of some things this morning so I will post my response later in the day for you. I hope that is ok.

Wow I thought it was to soon to plant. I haven't even got my seedlings started inside yet. Plan on doing that today though. Your garden looks great though.
