Who Would Have Thought

This post is dedicated to a special person in our family ~ Aunt C.

I have been talking about our garden that we are putting in and how I am so excited to get the plants in the ground. Well, if you know me you would ask yourself what on earth would I want a garden for when I am not a vegetable fan. Ok, ok...this is a legitimate question.

About a month or two ago I did something out of the ordinary for me. It was a super busy day and I stopped off to pick up a burger at a drive through. Well, not having time I had to eat it on the road. The order was wrong...I asked for no vegetables but lo and behold it was packed with tomatoes, onions, lettuce, pickles...the works. Ok, lettuce and pickles I like but the others...eehhh. I could live with out them. Well, I was so hungry and had to get to my destination that I thought...whatever I'll just grin and bare it. I began to take a bite and then the crunch of the onion went off in my head. I am a sound and texture person so this to me was like nails on a chalkboard. (Yes, I admit I am quirky.) After a few bites something seemed to really arise in my taste buds. It was the tomato and onion. What was this I was experiencing from them? I'll tell you what it was, it was "enjoyment." Yes, I actually liked the taste. It seemed as if this really enhanced my burger. Hmmm...what was really going on here?

A few days later I had went grocery shopping. I bought my usual vegetables and salad fixings for hubby (I don't eat it normally) so at dinner I made him a big salad. I decided I was going to have a bowl myself. Yes, it included tomatoes, onions, carrots, etc. You know what...I liked it. I was thinking to myself, was this just a fluke? Was I so hungry the day of the burger and now that 'anything' including vegetables tasted good?? Yes, that had to be it...I was just so hungry that's why it tasted good.

To make a long story short, I continued to try a few other vegetables and fruits mind you over the course of a few weeks. Here it is for you Aunt C, I am admitting it ~ I LIKED IT! I REALLY LIKED IT!! Even my hubby has been impressed and awed that I have found a new enjoyment in my vegetable/fruit fare.

So now I have several new friends, including these fellas....

Now you know why I am getting more and more excited to start growing my own produce. As much as I like the store bought vegetables, I can only imagine how much better fresh, homegrown ones will taste.

It is so funny how our taste buds literally change over the years ... If you're enjoying the store bought fruits and vegetables just wait until you begin eating garden fresh ones ... your taste buds will be dancing!

My story with veggies is the total opposite. I grew up on a farm and all of our food was homegrown, including veggies. So I love them. Hubby did not like them one bit. When we met I had 3 children, I was very strick on what they ate. I always (and still do)want them to try something before they say they don't like it. When my hubby first came over for supper I warned him ahead of time about this. I made veggies that night and had him try them...LOL in front of the children, and he liked them!! So we now grow our own garden. I can not wait until we can get started on our garden!! I'm glad to see you are doing the love dare. Blessings!
